About Dengue

Dengue is a rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease that is now endemic in more than 100 countries on all continents.8Dengue is mainly spread byAedes aegyptimosquitoes and, to a lesser extent,Aedes albopictusmosquitoes.8It is caused by any of four dengue virus serotypes, each of which can cause dengue fever or severe dengue.8The prevalence of individual serotypes varies across different geographies, countries, regions, seasons and over time.8Infection by one can provide lifelong protection against that one dengue serotype and temporary immunity against the three other serotypes.8A second infection with a different serotype can be worse in some cases.8
